The last major Codeworks conference has found a home.
Just under a year since the regional technology organisation announced it was breaking up, Codeworks lynchpin Herb Kim has announced a deal has been completed to transfer the DIBI conference to Epic Times.
Codeworks has now found homes for its most prominent North East conferences. Herb Kim purchased Thinking Digital himself last summer, while GamesIndustry International signed up for the GamesHorizon gaming conference.
DIBI is a twin-track conference that aims to provide practical advice to both designers and developers through workshops and speakers. It has previously been run around April each year, but this year it has been re-scheduled to October 7 and 8, and will move from The Sage to the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
Epic Times launched last year as a site featuring profiles of figures in the North East creative and tech community. It is run by the Sharpe family of Julie, Laura and George. Laura’s company Sharpe Recruitment is also active in finding work for designers and developers and is lead sponsor of the next week’s PHP North East Conference.
In a post announcing the transfer, Herb said:
“As part of the new Epic Times initiative, they’ve decided to take on the considerable responsibility of producing the DIBI Web Conference for 2013 and beyond. They look forward to the challenge of building on the substantial legacy left by Gavin Elliott, Oli Wood, Naomi Atkinson and the many great folks who’ve helped make DIBI such a success over the past few years.”
The news means that there is one more confirmed web conference on the calendar for the region. Longtime DIBI conference producer Gavin is now running design and development conference Industry, which is making its debut in DIBI’s traditional April slot this year on April 23 and 24. Industry will feature speakers such as John Allsopp and Ashley Baxter and Noah Stokes.
The first early bird tickets for DIBI have gone on sale at £99, and are available from the website.
